Justice League Dark Projects Under Development With Bad Robot At Warner Bros

Like many DC properties, Justice League Dark has had a tricky path, but things are now looking up as J.J. Abrams company Bad Robot will be developing both TV series and films based off these characters.

Deadline broke the news yesterday, but this should be taken with massive grains of salt as no other major US film coverage website are reporting this.

Deadline stress there are no specific projects currently in development. Still, Bad Robot’s Head of Motion Picture Hannah Minghella will be working alongside DC Films chief Walter Hamada. At the same time, Ben Stephenson, Bad Robot’s Head of Television, will be working with Warner Bros Television Group President and Chief Content Officer Peter Roth.

Furthermore, Minghella and Stephenson are in the process of meeting talent reps and their writing clients on which characters will get their own projects. Everything is in the early stages, but you can get an idea of what characters will make their way onto both the small screen and big screen.

The supernatural team-up movie Justice League Dark will be a feature as there’s a lot of potentials to make money especially if they make it similar to their low budget horror flicks.

Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if they returned to Guillermo del Toro’s script and based on the character he was going to use. Like John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Zatanna, Madame Xanadu, Deadman, Etrigan the Demon and another character but mainly those six.

So you have to think which characters would work best for which medium.

Swamp Thing had a DC Universe series (now on Amazon Prime in the UK) cancelled after one season. Then you have Constantine, who had a movie starring Keanu Reeves but wasn’t great and a short run series with Matt Ryan and now can be seen in Legends of Tomorrow.

Whatever form of TV, it’s more than likely to be for WarnerMedia’s upcoming streaming service HBO Max and interweaving the formats could work similarly to characters in the MCU getting TV series like The Falcon and The Winter Soldier for the Disney+ streaming service.

If I had any input, then I’d put the big three of Zatanna, Constantine and Swamp Thing in solo movies and able to attract big names. For example, Ana de Armas’ name has to have been mentioned or thought about for Zatanna.

Meanwhile, lesser-known characters like Madame Xanadu, Deadman and Etrigan the Demon could be supporting characters in those movies while also having their own series.

Finally, with these projects so early in discussions, it’s unknown if Abrams will come onboard to a director.
