Since they were first announced to be joining the Star Wars family, fans have been wondering what Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will be tackling and it’s likely we have an answer.
According to Star Wars News Net, Benioff and Weiss will be set during the Old Republic and production could be starting as early as this Autumn.
The website stress this is just a rumour (despite their sources being “95% confident”), but if this the case it’s every fucking exciting as the Old Republic has so much storytelling possibilities as this is the era when Jedi and Sith were born and involved in a bitter war.
It’ll also be a fresh take and won’t involve the Skywalker story in any shape and this film is being described as Star Wars meets Lord of the Rings. This would not only bring something new to the Star Wars universe and expand the timeline but also fits these two blokes style.
Not only this but this was the first thing fans have been wanting to see from the duo when they signed on, but the Old Republic is the top choice of every fan whenever a filmmaker or screenwriter comes on to handle a Star Wars project.
I’m sure we’ll hear about the Benioff and Weiss project during Star Wars Celebration in three weeks time.
