As they always do, Marvel Studios blew up the internet and heads in Hall H of San Diego Comic-Con as Kevin Feige made his triumphant return with the chief outlining the next two phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Phase four ends with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever this November, bringing a frustrating end to a mixed phase.
The maestro unveiled Phases 5&6 will be known as “The Multiverse Saga”, with the plan ending with two Avengers movies six months apart in 2025 with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty before leading us to Avengers: Secret Wars.
Before we even get to the return of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, the build-up begins in Phase five next year with the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania on February 17.
Not much is known yet about the third Ant-Man besides we’ll be introduced to the adult Cassie Lang, played by Kathryn Newton, in her suit as per the poster.
After being introduced in Loki season one, Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conquerer is the villain, building towards the fifth Avengers flick.
Fans inside Hall H got a glimpse of what to expect from the movie with the confirmation that MODOK will be appearing and a look at Bill Murray’s character.
The phase continues with the Disney+ series Secret Invasion, starring Ben Mendelsohn returning as Talos with Cobie Smulders and Samuel L. Jackson reprising their roles of Maria Hill and Nick Fury, and will be joined by Emilia Clarke and Olivia Coleman.
Then on May 5, Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will be hitting theatres as it marks the end of James Gunn on the property and likely be the final adventure with the gang in its current form, at least.
Gunn showed an exclusive trailer (I suspect it’ll become public by D23 in September) and confirmed some hidden roles. Peacemaker star Chukwudi Iwuji will be the film’s villain as the High Evolutionary, whilst Borat 2‘s Maria Bakalova is playing Cosmo the Space Dog.
If you’ve seen Iwuji on the DC series, you know he will kill it in this role.
Fans also got a brief look at Will Poulter as Adam Warlock.
The summer is going to be packed with MCU with Echo and Loki season 2 arriving on the streaming service and will close with The Marvels as Captain Marvel, Ms Marvel and Monica Rambeau.
We’ll have to wait until November 5 for the introduction of Blade as Mahershala Ali will lead the reboot, three years after walking out on the Marvel Hall H panel, as we go vampire-hunting.
Before we head towards the end of the end year with Ironheart and the Wandavision spin-off, Agatha: Coven of Chaos. Which sees the return of Kathryn Hahn as the cheeky witch.
The previously titled Agatha: House of Harkness led us into 2024 before Charlie Cox makes his outstanding solo return as Matt Murdock in the series Daredevil: Born Again in Spring 2024.
Phase 5 will be closed out by Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson donning his new Captain America suit in Captain America: New World Order to be released on May 3, 2024. Finally, the Thunderbolts will debut after years of fans hoping to bring a villainous edge to the MCU on July 26, 2024.
As for Phase six, it’s a little quieter currently, with only three projects confirmed.
Besides the two Avengers movies, Fantastic Four will make its long-awaited return home to Marvel, with Feige confirming production will begin next year.
As you would’ve seen, eight spaces are left to be filled with the MCU leader revealing who will fill them at D23 and that the “Eternals will return.”
