Brendan Fraser stays within the DC family having been cast as the pyro-theme villain Firefly in the upcoming Batgirl movie.
Deadline broke the story, Fraser will be joining a cast that includes In The Heights star Leslie Grace as the titled superhero with the film centring on Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Gotham City police commissioner Jim Gordon. J.K. Simmons will be returning as the elder Gordon following making her first appearance in Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

The HBO Max film will be directed by Bad Boys For Life filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah from a script by Birds of Prey and The Flash screenwriter Christina Hodson.
It’s wonderful to see Fraser having this rightful bounce back in his career from being Robotman in the DC series Doom Patrol and the outpouring of love for the iconic bisexual film, The Mummy.

Firefly is an underused and unrated Batman villain that is ideal for Batgirl. Garfield Lynns, who Fraser will likely play, is a former special effects worker who turns to crime using pyromaniac with an obsession with starting fires.
What’s annoying is this is the sort of announcement was missing from DC FanDome because if they revealed this during the small panel at the event that would’ve made a massive splash.
