Rumour: Karen Gillan Could Be The New Priate Of The Caribbean

The topic of a rebooted Pirates of the Caribbean has been rumoured for years following the decline in both quality and the box offices up and down nature. However, there are fresh rumours Disney are preparing another crack at Pirates.

According to The Disinsider, that not only is the mouse house looking to go back out to see, but they’re also looking for a new lead to helm the franchise taking over from Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow.

The name on the top of Disney’s list is Guardians of the Galaxy/Avengers: Endgame and Jumanji: The Next Level star Karen Gillan.

It comes as no surprise that Gillan would be at the top. She’s one of the biggest names in Hollywood right now involved in two of the biggest franchises and part of the Disney family.

The Disinisder are also rumouring the studio is also considering women of colour, but the Scot is the top target.

Gillan has been the number one choice for fans speculation whenever the topic of a Pirates reboot is mentioned as the film(s) could centre on the character known as Redd.

Redd has been a popular female pirate since featuring at the Disneyland attractions from 2018.

Last year (via Empire) Disney brought in Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin and franchise veteran Ted Elliot to write a new iteration of the hugely successful franchise. Additionally, there’s no news if Depp will return, though highly unlikely, and as to a director but I fully expect it to be someone from the MCU, but I think Guy Ritchie would have a blast.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl is simply one of the greatest modern-day adventure films with one of the greatest piece of, Led Zepplin-esque, music by the legendary Hans Zimmer, it’s just a shame about the sequels never matching it.

With all rumours, this should be taken with the pinch of salt of your choosing. I wouldn’t usually be writing a piece like this, but the folks at The Disinsider have been recently on top form, especially breaking the story on a live-action Heracles movie.
