It took its time, but Disney finally got there as Hercules is getting his live-action adaptation treatment.
According to The Hollywood Reporter (The Disinsider broke the original story), the Russo brothers will be producing the remake of the 1997 animated movie. Meanwhile, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Wonder Woman 1984 and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 writer Dave Callaham tapped to pen the script.
Avengers filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo will produce the flick from their AGBO banner and will most likely follow the 1997 pic being a musical fantasy retelling of the Greek legend featuring plenty of humour.
The project is in such early development there’s no news on castings or finding a director.
It hasn’t stopped fans creating a petition to have Ariana Grande to play Megara after this performance of “I Won’t Say I’m In Love” during The Disney Family Singalong. As for the title role, I won’t be surprised if the Russo’s look into the MCU family.
It’s also unknown how this new take will be or if it will even keep the musical numbers like Mulan, releasing July 24, where they’ve removed the musical numbers to become a war epic.
