So The Dead Don’t Die, a film I had no idea was coming out and was looking forward to seeing as it had a strong cast and the first official trailer was funny, especially Adam Driver.
Going into the screening I was hoping to have a good laugh.
What’s The Dead Don’t Die About?
This zombie-comedy is set in a small US town which the residents find themselves besieged by zombies during an apocalyptic lunar event.
Is It Any Good?
The really short answer is no.
It was so bad I wasn’t bothering writing a full review post a tweet with some of my thoughts, but with respect to all the hard work the crew put in I might as well put in the effort.
I did enjoy Swinton’s weirdness and Driver saying the word ghouls.
Anything Bad About The Film?
So much that this film is the worst film I’ve seen this year and I hate being negative about movies.
Honestly, I sat getting more and more bored everyone in the cast are having a great time. This film is basically director Jarmusch bringing people to make a movie by basically fucking around for an hour and 45 minutes.
There’s a lot of “look we’re in the joke too, see!”
It was getting to the point I was seriously thinking of walking out.
The pacing is all over the place. It’s so slow in the opening act and half of the second act. So by the time we get to the action you’re so bored, you simply don’t care. Additionally, the third act just sprints to the end, probably realising they’ve wasted enough time so might as well rush the ending.
There’s one storyline that we don’t even know how it ended.
Don’t waste your time. Don’t see it in the cinema, on streaming, nothing. If you want to see Driver say ghouls watch the trailer, use the gif and save yourself the time and watch something entertaining.
