This Is How Robert Pattinson Became Matt Reeves Batman

After finally being officially confirmed last week, following Variety’s breaking story two weeks prior, Robert Pattinson is our new Batman.

If the turnaround seemed quick after Matt Reeves has been with the project for two years, it because it was as The Hollywood Reporter revealed.

In the space of a few hours, Pattinson went from being in front of reporters and photographers at Cannes Film Festival to present the period drama, The Lighthouse. The next thing he was on a plane to Los Angeles to have a costume set in a Batsuit for Reeves.

The next thing last Friday the test was successful and Warner Bros announced the British secured the role which concluded: “an intense process” that was “surprisingly quick”.

It seems like Reeves and the studio wanted to go with a small number of actors during the casting process instead of casting the net far to handle dozens of screen tests for superhero roles like Superman and when Marvel/Disney look for the new Wolverine.

What seemingly helped with the process is Reeves was thinking of actors whilst writing the script according to THR source and the age was indeed a massive factor as we learned a little more about what sort of Batman and Bruce Wayne we’ll see.

“He’s written as around 30 years old, and the story is neither another rehashing of his origin nor the tale of a seasoned crimefighter ruling Gotham City, He is Bruce Wayne still trying to find his footing on his way to becoming the genius detective.”

This is great news as we won’t be seeing Thomas and Martha being shot as we’ve seen it happened in multiple Batman films and we’ll be seeing Batman coming into his prime, which is something we’ve never actually seen with maybe The Dark Knight the best possible example.

I do think we will see something that’ll hint to his past but it’ll be a quick so something like Bruce looking at a painting of his parents and hearing gunshots.

This also continues to confirm we will be getting a noir, detective story and that’s fucking exciting.

Additionally, it confirms when Reeves signed on back in February 2017 that Ben Affleck was gone altogether with Justice League his final appearance, but I do think it was smart for the actor and WB to reveal his stepping down when they did.

What’s going to be interesting to see what Batsuit Pattinson (and Nicholas Hoult) wore during the costume test as Christian Bale did his test before Batman Begins in Val Kilmer’s 1995’s Batman Forever. Just guess, the Brits wore either George Clooney’s Batman & Robin suit or Bale’s Batman Begins suit.

Reeves and Pattinson’s Batman is set to be a trilogy that’s likely to launch a new DC Film Universe as this Batman won’t interact with Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman and Jason Momoa’s Aquaman.

I think Pattinson is going to be a fantastic Batman and Bruce and could even beat Affleck who become my favourite version of the character in Batman v Superman.

Filming is possibly beginning at the end of the year or the beginning of 2020 before The Batman opens on June 25, 2021.
