Comic Book Writer Tom King Joins Ava DuVernay’s New Gods As Co-Writer

When it was announced DC Comic writer Tom King Batman run was cut short there were questions as to why his 100+ comic run was going to be cut to just 85 instead.

But now, The Wrap revealed that this disappointment wouldn’t last as he has joined Ava DuVernay’s DC Films project New Gods as her co-writer.

The filmmaker confirmed the story by posting a picture on Twitter and King’s connection to the world of the New Gods is well known to comic book fans for his Mister Miracle series.

The reason people should get excited is that this run was critically praised winning multiple awards and the last night that happens is when comic legend Jack Kirby created New Gods back in the 1970s.

So King is the best person to join and help, alongside DuVerney, bring this world to life.

In case you have no idea about what New Gods is about, it’s centred around the conflict between two alien planets called New Genesis and Apokolips.

The conflict between the two planets set collided with Earth when Darkseid, ruler of Apokolips, discovers the key to eradicating free will across the universe is found in the minds of certain humans.

The New Gods have had some influence within the DCEU with Zack Snyder introducing the omega symbol (Darkseid’s symbol) in the Knightmare sequence and then Steppenwolf (Darkseid’s uncle) at the end of Batman v Superman and was the main villain in Justice League.

Justice League also introduced mother boxes (the device the Fourth World uses to transport) and we know now that Snyder, via the social media app Vero, that the leader of Apokolips was going to have a bigger impact in the DCEU going forward before plans changed.

It’s going to be exciting to see what these two creators produce together as it’s possible King’s Mister Miracle series is going to be our and the wider audiences introduction to this world with Mister Miracle and Big Barda as the leads.
