After the massive breaking news of Robert Pattinson all but likely becoming the new Batman in Matt Reeves’ DC film.

Following up on that news, The Hollywood Reporter has hinted at the possible villains that could be appearing and it could be a Batman Returns remake of sorts as the US trade are stating The Penguin and Catwoman are in the script.

A source as also told THR that we could see “around half-a-dozen villains” but the Apes filmmaker is still currently tweaking his script.

If we do get to see Oswald Cobblepot and Selina Kyle, I’d like to see something new embedded in the classic character.

For example, my top pick for Penguin is Atlanta and Widows star, Brian Tyree Henry.

I think he’d be an incredible choice and get fans excited (you’ll also get idiots complaining that “why is Penguin being played by a black actor, this is PC gone crazy” but they’d be quiet very, very quickly.

Imagine Henry’s Cobblepot as the second most eligible bachelor in Gotham, friends with Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne and the owner of the hottest nightclub in the city in the Iceberg Lounge.

With Reeves make a noir-driven, detective story, we’ll learn Cobblepot is also the man who knows of Gotham’s elite (politicians, police and celebrates) secrets and there’s a back room where they can be bribed, take drugs, have affairs etc. Oswald would also be the most vicious crimelord in Gotham.

The 37-year-old could change the image of the character, similar to Jason Momoa becoming Aquaman, Penguin wouldn’t be seen as a fat bloke with a top hat or Danny Devito. Instead, Cobblepot would be this smart, sexy, scary villain, he proved my point at this year’s Oscars.

As for Catwoman, there are four actresses in mind that would be realistic to see Pattinson’s Bats flirt and have a relationship.

My top pick will always be Baby Driver star Eiza González.

I mean you just need to look at her and you’ll see why, but the same with all these actresses.

The reason behind González is because she’s going to become a household name with blockbusters like Fasts & Furious presents: Hobbs and Shaw, Bloodshot and Godzilla vs Kong. Additionally, she’s also going into gritty crime indie films as well.

That balance will be perfect for Catwoman as we know she’ll be able to have a physical connection with Pattinson’s Dark Knight and kick ass, but she’ll also have emotional chemistry with the British actor.

Elsewhere, not casting Zoë Kravitz will be seen as a missed opportunity.

Not only has she voiced Catwoman in The LEGO Batman Movie, but she’s also part of the Warner Bros family starring in the Fantastic Beasts films and Mad Max: Fury Road whilst also in HBO’s mega-popular series, Big Little Lies.

Kravitz is also one of the best actresses currently in Hollywood.

The final two picks are Gemma Chan and Ana de Armas.

Both actresses are known to WB with Chan starring in the rom-com that help brought the genre back into the mainstream with Crazy Rich Asians and is one of the best actresses coming out of the UK.

Meanwhile, Armas has featured in films like War Dogs, Blade Runner 2049 and The Informer for the studio. The 31-year-old actress will also be starring in the Richard Curtis written/Danny Boyle directed rom-com Yesterday, Rian Johnson’s crime-drama Knives Out alongside Chris Evans, Daniel Craig, Jamie Lee Curtis and Lakeith Stanfield and finally becoming a Bond girl for Bond 25.

It’s all a bit of fun but the idea of Reeves doing an original idea that takes inspiration from the Hush or Long Halloween storyline is incredibly exciting and he possibly might’ve teased who was going to be the villains in this film.
