Waking up this morning the only reaction I had to this news is HOLY FUCK! as Robert Pattinson is set to play the Batman for Matt Reeves.
Variety broke this massive story state the deal hasn’t been signed yet, but it should be wrapped up soon.
You never know, we might hear something later and Warner Bros can dominate the news cycle over the weekend.
Pre-production on the upcoming WB/DC film is set to begin this summer, so maybe we could see Reeves, with his new Dark Knight at San Diego Comic Con. While no official start date has been confirmed the US trade says filming could start in late 2019 or early 2020.
This is set to be some incredible couple of years for the British actor as before stepping onto the set of The Batman, he’ll be working alongside visionary director Christopher Nolan on his latest event film.
This shows the studio showing loyalty to a man, who gave him his first big break playing Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire before becoming the Twilight heartthrob.
Since then Pattinson has become an auteur, taking his craft seriously starring in films like The Rover, Cosmopolis, The Lost City of Z, Good Time and High Life (which is currently out in cinemas).
The 33-year-old was even been cast even while Reeves is currently polishing the script and the filmmaker of the two Planet of the Apes sequel will be producing The Batman with his Apes collaborator Dylan Clark.
While I would have loved Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the cowl, I truly believe Pattinson will be a phenomenal job as both Bruce Wayne and Batman similar to Ben Affleck in Batman v Superman.
I’m sure he’ll go to the gym and workout, I actually don’t want to see another bruiser-type bats as Affleck did an incredible job. I’d rather see Pattinson be much leaner.
It must be said other US trades like The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline state the Brit is on top of a shortlist of actors Warner Bros and Reeves are looking at and they include Armie Hammer, Nicholas Hoult and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
However, Justin Kroll at Variety has been following Batman for a while and believe when he says Pattinson is Batman.
