Rami Malek, Ana De Armas & Lashana Lynch Joins Daniel Craig’s Bond 25

Yesterday whilst watching Avengers: Endgame news of the Bond 25 cast and details of the film were announced and it has to be said it was a very well done job.

Live from Goldeneye in Jamaica producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson alongside director Cary Joli Fukunaga confirmed the start of filming for the 25th James Bond film will begin on 28 April 2019.

The filmmaker unveiled the premise of the film.

“Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.”

As the synopsis reveals Jeffrey Wright is coming back as Felix as we haven’t seen him since Quantum of Solace and this, like Daniel Craig, looks like to be his final appearance in the series.

Craig and Wright will be joined by other returning stars like Naomie Harris’ Moneypenny, Ralph Fiennes as M, Ben Whishaw is coming back Q, Rory Kinnear’s Tanner and Léa Seydoux as Madeleine Swann.

They’ll be joined by new members Ana de Armas, Dali Benssalah, David Dencik, Lashana Lynch, Billy Magnussen and Rami Malek will be playing the villain.

This announcement confirms Variety‘s story of Magnussen and he’ll be playing a top CIA operative and is going to be Felix’s number two. The US trade also stated the two female roles were a new MI6 agent and an accomplice similar to Olga Kurylenko’s Camille from Quantum of Solace.

It clearly looks like Lynch will be playing the new MI6 agent and coming off receiving praise from audiences and critics for her performance in Captain Marvel. I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s the 007 since Bond’s retirement and could see her becoming a returning character as a different 00.

Meanwhile, Blade Runner 2049’s Armas will be the accomplice and she’s a talented actress. I haven’t seen her in Blade Runner but thought she did a decent job in War Dogs.

It’s not hard to see why she was cast because she’s utterly stunning and hot as hell! Did you see what she wore at the live announcement?

With Lynch, you’ll get the younger fans as she did kill it in Captain Marvel and I will go back and watch her in Bulletproof to see what more she’ll give in the role.

Elsewhere, Swedish actor Dencik will most likely play the scientist. I have seen him in McMafia (opposite potential future Bond James Norton and also starred in Tinker, Taylor, Soldier, Spy.

As for Benssalah, the French actor has had a number of small roles on French TV with this being his biggest role to date. He’ll likely be Malek’s villain right-hand man or we could see Benssalah and Dencik swapping roles.

Finally, Oscar winner Malek gave a message to fans and the cast and you can see seeds of his villain coming out to play and it looks like she’s playing a bad dude and not a leader of a terrorist cell.

Bond veteran writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade will be part of the screenwriting team and they will be joined by Scott Z. Burns, who has written films like Side Effect, Contagion and The Bourne Ultimatum, Fukunaga is also putting his hand on the script and Broccoli confirmed Fleabag and Killing Eve’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge is involved.

So my best bet is Purvis and Wade will get a story credit and got the ground floor of the script down, then Burns probably worked on the story after Danny Boyle stood down. Then finally, Fukunaga added his flavour and Waller-Bridge was brought on board to punish up the female characters and general rewrites.

Bond 25 has already done some filming in Norway, but they’ll begin in Jamaica on Sunday and then will go to London and the production base in Pinewood and finally Italy in a town called Matera, which was doubled as Themyscira in Wonder Woman.

Finally, there was no word on the official title apart from it won’t be Shatterhand or Eclipse. However, even though I thought we might’ve known I like the idea of this film being called Bond 25 until the trailer comes out similar to when the first trailers of Avengers and Star Wars revealed the official title.

Bond 25 will be released in the UK through Universal on April 3, 2020, and in the US under the United Artists Releasing banner on April 8, 2020.
