Marvel Studios have cast Oscar winners, indie favourites and big name actors. However, it looks set that one of/if not the biggest Hollywood A-list superstar will be the biggest name to ever join the MCU.
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed Angelina Jolie is set to make her way into the superhero world as she’s in talks to join The Eternals has Marvel Studios begin the new era of the MCU post-Avengers: Endgame.
Indie filmmaker Chloe Zhao will be directing The Eternals, the Marvel comic was created by Jack Kirby and follows superpowered and near-immortal beings as Eternals and their more monstrous cousins known as the Deviants.
It’s basically a lot of comic book madness and it’s going to be interesting how this is handled and if general audiences will like it.
As for the plot, it’s currently under wraps but sources have told the US trade an aspect of the film will be a love story between Ikaris, a man fuelled by cosmic energy, and Sersi, who wants to live amongst humans. No idea who Jolie will play but it’s either the top female hero or the main villain.
While still a massive get for the studio, when thinking about it it’s not a big surprise as she’s part of the Disney family starring in the original Maleficent and the upcoming sequel Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. She’s also producing the animation/live-action hybrid The One and Only Ivan.
