One MCU project that I’m keeping an eye on is Mahershala Ali as Blade, and now the Marvel film is slowly taking shape as casting is in full swing.
As Deadline has revealed, Krypton star Aaron Pierre has signed on, but it’s unknown who the British actor will play. However, the trade goes on to add the role was one of the highly coveted parts in Hollywood.
They added that director Bassam Tariq and Kevin Feige among others, “took their time finding the right person for this part meeting dozens of up-and-coming actors for the role, with Pierre becoming favourite in recent weeks.”
Since starting in Krypton, the Brixton lad’s star has grown, being part of the Disney family voicing Mufasa in the Barry Jenkins directed The Lion King prequel. Additionally, he’s had a significant role in M. Night Shyamalan’s Old and is working with Jenkins again on the Amazon series, The Underground Railroad.
He’s currently filming the Garth Davis thriller Foe opposite Saorise Ronan and Paul Mescal.
As well as Ali, Pierre will be working alongside Delroy Lindo, Da 5 Bloods, in a secret role that the execs had eyed for him.
My best guess is Pierre will be the main villain, but I’m sure we’ll know properly in the next couple of months.
It’s clear Marvel will want to get this movie right since announcing back in 2019 at San Diego Comic-Con that the Oscar-winning actor will be taking over the role Wesley Snipes made famous in the late 90s/early 00s.
I still have my question marks, but this writer is fully in if they can bring a darker tone, not the rated R of the original.
