Sony has gotten another great attention to their Spider-Man Universe as Dakota Johnson is in talks to become Madame Web.
S.J. Clarkson will be directing the movie with a screenplay penned by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless based on the comic book character. Madame Web has normally been shown as an elderly woman with a medical condition known as myasthenia gravis whose support system looks like a spider web.
Due to her condition, she has never fought villains, so according to Deadline sources have stressed it’s possible the project could turn into something different. They also state due to her psychic sensory powers she’ll become Sony’s version of Doctor Strange.

Getting a female-driven Sony Marvel has been on the top of the big bosses list for a while. Given the long line of strong female characters in the comics, Sony execs have been working out who would land this title role talking to numerous A-listers, with Johnson becoming a front-runner just before the Christmas holidays.
Sony is smashing it with their Spider-Man projects as Venom: Let There Be Carnage made more than $500 million worldwide. Spider-Man: No Way Home has become a cultural hit and the biggest film of 2021. It’s also the first film to make a billion dollars at the box office since 2019, currently on $1.7 billion worldwide.
It’s great to see a studio take these swings with their comic book properties, especially compared to the formula used at Disney and Marvel Studios as Sony continues what Fox started.
As Venom is the buddy movie we didn’t know we needed, Morbius gives horror vibes. I look forward to seeing where they go with Kraven the Hunter, Madame Web and anything else they greenlight, and hopefully we hear what Olivia Wilde is working on.
