Production for the G.I. Joe spinoff Snake Eyes has officially begun, but before shooting begins some of the cast and crew got a traditional blessing at the Hie-Jinja Shine in Tokyo.
Lead star Henry Golding was in attendance as was Andrew Koji, Haruka Abe, Iko Uwais, Takehiro Hira and joining them was the film’s director Robert Schwentke, the only one absent was Ready or Not star Samara Weaving.

In case you have no idea what I’m talking about. Snake Eyes (Golding) is a ninja commando who wears all black, hides his eyes and doesn’t speak. For those reasons he became G.I. Joe’s most popular character.
Meanwhile, he has a special relationship with Scarlett (Weaving), the teams (because G.I. Joe isn’t just one man, it’s an anti-terrorist group) first female member, but also carries out solo missions with his pet wolf, Timber.

However, he can be found battling his blood brother and archenemy, Storm Shadow.
If I’m being honest, I have no idea what I just wrote. I know who Snake Eyes is and seen moments from the two G.I. Joe movies but apart from that this movie is a blank slate for me.
It’s the main reason why I’m interested and the fact we can see Crazy Rich Asians star Golding kick-ass as I believe this is the perfect role to continue to prove he’s the right man to be the next James Bond.

Now with the film adding Weaving and especially after seeing the Aussie become a badass action star in her own right thanks to Ready or Not. So I’m looking forward to seeing her kicking faces in.

I’d be amiss to mention Koji and Uwais, who are awesome in their right with things like Warrior and The Raid respectfully.
I’m hoping this is a fantastic, action-packed mid-budget movie and it seems like Paramount and Hasbro are looking at this as the beginning of a new franchise that doesn’t connect to the previous movies.
It seems to be a quick production, including reshoots and editing, as Snake Eyes is set to be released on October 23, 2020.
