Andy Serkis & Colin Farrell Could Be Joining The Batman

Matt Reeves has seemingly found his Alfred and Penguin in the form of Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell respectfully as both are in talks to join The Batman.

The Wrap first broke the news of Serkis potentially reuniting with his Apes director and follow the footsteps of British legends like Michael Caine, Jeremy Irons and Michael Gough to become Bruce Wayne’s trusted butler and mentor Alfred Pennyworth.

Casting the 55-year-old is a great move and the obvious choice as fans have been wondering what role the Black Panther and Lord of the Rings star whenever news of Serkis’ casting was officially confirmed.

If the deal does go through, the only issue is Serkis is currently working on directing his own superhero film with Venom 2 will likely be filming the same time as The Batman. Which means either Alfred will have a small role with mainly being voiceover work or he’ll shot his scenes during reshoots.

I hope the deal is signed as I think he’d be great in the role and add that sacrist humour to the character similar to Irons’ portrayal in Batman v Superman and Justice League.

Additionally, I’m sure an actor of Robert Pattinson would want to collaborate with a legend like Serkis.

Meanwhile, Deadline is reporting Farrell that is being looked at to join the rogues gallery, with Zoe Kravitz’s Catwoman and The Riddler played by Paul Dano, as The Penguin.

It’s an out of the box move by The Batman filmmaker but it’s so weird it could be fantastic.

Because the Irishman is an underrated actor and always smashes his characters out of the park. For example, plenty of people wanted Farrell to be Grindelwald instead of Johnny Deep.

Furthermore, the 43-year-old is a great choice because I think he’ll add something new to Oswald Cobblepot and he could be Bruce Wayne’s equal and owner of Gotham’s hottest nightclub.

Looks wise Reeves could do a mixture of both the classic character look and the New 52 design of a new villain Emperor Penguin.

It’d be nice to see Penguin played by someone else and join Danny DeVito as actors to portray him on the big screen.

It must be said both aren’t officially confirmed but it does look likely and the cast is coming together fantastically, we’ll just have to wait for Reeves’ tweets.

The Batman has a release date of June 25, 2021.
