Our Ladies come to my attention at the launch programme of this year’s London Film Festival and the brief clip they showed had me interested and gave a strong Derry Girls vibe.

The name and plot reminded me of a stage show a couple of years ago, but I was unsure and never really followed up past a quick Google search.

However, after seeing the film and did other Google search it was confirmed to me that both the stage show and film are based on the same book, The Sopranos by Alan Warner.

What Is Our Ladies About?

Set in mid-90s Scotland, follow sex teenage choirgirls of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour on a day trip from their port town in the Highlands to a singing competition in Edinburgh. This rebellious gang are less focused on the competition and more excited about exploring the big city for booze and boys.

Is It Any Good?

Our Ladies is phenomenal and the hidden crown jewel of the London Film Festival. It’s funny, sexy, thoughtful, emotional with glorious performances from the six actresses.

If you love Derry Girls, Booksmart and Blockers only love this film and simply put it I love these ladies.

The performances of these actresses as a group can be simply put it they’re a pack of wolves that make every bloke from the normal, shy and creepy cocky their bitch and from the look of their eyes, both parties know these girls are hot and would eat them alive.

Individually, they’re all great and have their independent storylines that seem the tackle different subjects from sexuality, life, pregnancy, class and friendship without being preached too.

I can’t point out just one performance because they all gel so well and they’ll all be upcoming stars. However, the two standouts were Lawrie and Greive. Meanwhile, Siu has such a fantastic voice, she must have an album in the works.

Time just flys by and would’ve loved to have a little more from I love these ladies. I love the film and cast so much I want a TV series with these actresses.

Anything Bad About The Film?

No. I’ve got nothing bad to say about this film.

You should go and see Our Ladies and do a trilogy boxset with Booksmart and Blockers.

Verdict

A fantastic film with funny, sexy, superb performances with Lawrie and Greive’s being the standouts.
